I knew I had not posted in a while but it has been close to a month. I did not post because I really have not accomplished all that much. We had a nice class at my EGA guild in February and I finished it. It was a petite project by Mary Waldsmith. I am sure you have seen this many places recently. I pretty much followed the suggested threads and it was fun to do.

I also finished my crewel project by Barbara Jackson, Berry Bandit, offered through the Shining Needle Society. I am not sure crewel is my thing but it was an interesting class. I have no desire to finish this on my own so another project in the to be finished pile.

I also had a nice Sunday with my ANG guild. We went to the presidents house and had an afternoon of stitching and snacks. I really did not accomplish all that much but even a few leaves on my project is better than nothing.

I have been very good on my nutrition program and power yoga. I am on the aging program so not really trying to loses weight. I would be happy losing 5 pounds but that is not the main purpose of my program. My husband has started parts of the program as well which was my main reason for doing this whole thing. I have lost inches and my clothes do fit better. My skin and nails are clear and strong so that is an added bonus. I want to rock a swim suit by the time I get to go on vacation. I won't say I will wear a bikini because after a certain age that is just not right and I am beyond the bikini age.

Well my next post should be more interesting. My EGA guild is having a retreat in a couple of weeks. Hopefully, on that weekend I will have some progress on my Edie and Ginger frog with a stitch guide by Tony Minieri.

Hope you all have an awesome week with lots of beautiful stitches.
He did go to two doctors this week and has an appointment with an allergist next week. They think part of his problem might be related to allergies. I have decided just let him take care of himself and let him sit around and be a bump by himself. I am going to live my life and enjoy myself. I start a nutrition program next week. I am hoping it will help me lose a few pounds so I can look terrific on the beach when I finally get to go on vacation. Hopefully, I will go on a March/April vacation and I hope to go someplace out of the country in June. If my husband is better, he can join me on either trip but he does have to take care of his health and overcome being an ass before I am going on any trips with him. Also on my positive life, I am eating better because I am eating at home and I am doing hot yoga three days a week. I am kind of getting into this working at home thing for the good things it I am getting out of it.

Onto my stitching. You would think I could conquer the stash I have collected over the years but I just keep a slow plug along. It would be helpful if I did not keep adding classes to the stash. I can be a class junkie. More about the new mini class next week but they still take time to complete.

I spent Saturday with the ladies from my guild and I did get a fair amount accomplished. The group stitching days are fun. You may get a little more done in your own nest but you also get to see the beautiful work everyone else is working on. Here is a picture of my Shinning Needle class crewel project this week:

I worked on the strawberries and the groups of three leaves at the guild. I hope to get a little more done this weekend.

Sunday was one of those days where thinking about long and short was not going to cut it. I spent the day doing French and colonial knots. I finished the Ghost, the green corners and started the purple boarder. It may not look like much but that is quite a few knots.

This actually looks better in person than in the picture. The picture is from my IPhone and it is pretty close up. I need to keep this in mind when I do before and after pictures of me for the nutritional program I am starting. Yikes, that could be scary.

This weekend does not have much going on. A friend may come over for Champagne after her spa treatments this afternoon. She is sailing in the Caribbean for the next two weeks. I am thinking about running some errands in the suburbs on Saturday and a friend is having his 40th birthday party on Saturday night. I have nothing planned for the Super Bowl. I really don't care about the game so most likely I will not even turn it on.

Hope you have a terrific weekend with lots for fun and stitching!
My husband has been ill. Nothing life threatening but it does require some medications that have some side effects like being moody and sometimes really tired. Today he was so exhausted he could not sit up at the table. When he got up, he fell over the back of the couch and his feet were over his head and it took him a couple of minutes to get upright. I wanted to call 911. He would not let me call 911 or his doctor. I told him to call the doctor himself and he won't do that either. I don't know what is left to do. I am thinking about packing my hospital bag and waiting for him to force me to call 911 because I cannot pick up his 210 pound body. He just lied to me and said he called for an appointment but he didn't because I have been within earshot all afternoon. If anyone has any suggestions on how to deal with an obstinate 50 year old, please let me know.

Thanks for the rant it did make me feel better, now onto stitching. I really have not done much this week. I have had things going on like doctor appointments and my handyman was here all day yesterday sealing the stone in my bathrooms and some general maintenance. I did finish my first two lessons on my crewel project. I think it turned out pretty good. I am still reading over the instructions and building up the courage to start the third set of instructions. The instructions are not overly clear to me and some of the drawings are different or not part of my line drawing. Fortunately, I have been stitching long enough I can wing some of this. The class is for all levels but I think a beginner would be more scared of this project than me. Here is a picture of my progress (today is a gloomy day so no natural light):
This weekend only has EGA going on. We have a meeting about the regional seminar in 2017, then the rest of the day will be a stitch-in with all the ladies. I am not sure the lighting is good enough in the room for the crewel project but I have plenty of other projects that can entertain me for the day.

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend and thanks so much for stopping by.Kellyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16147835732752604283noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8733551383425556765.post-14483937126043899072016-01-14T13:30:00.000-08:002016-01-14T13:30:35.012-08:00A return to bloggingHi, Remember me? I have been out of the blogging world for a couple of years but I thought I might come back. While I love Needlepoint Nation and all the beautiful work people post, I am not that comfortable with posting a bunch on Facebook and to be honest most of my friends are just not interested in my needlework. I really should not care whether or not they like my needlework, I don't care to hear about their political views (right or left) or the many pithy sayings.

Also, my work has changed and frankly I could use some new friends. I am working at home about 95% of the time so I am trying to do some things so I can still communicate with people when I get out in the world. I have only been working at home for the past couple of weeks and I think I like it. For years, I have worked two days a week at home but the firm is cutting out about 10 floors and I have to reserve a space to go into the office. Reserving a space is not an issue, the issue with going in comes from not even having a drawer in the office. There is no place for a few personal items such as a note book, Kleenex, antibacterial wipes, a computer lock, a hairbrush etc. I walk about a half mile to the office and I have to haul all this stuff over every time I go into the office. I have decided to go into the office a couple times a month when my house is being cleaned or if I have a meeting in the office.

Let me get back into blogging by showing you my recent finishes.

Golfing Santa is by Libby Sturdy. I worked on this project over the summer. When I can move out of the cold north and onto a golf course in the south, this can be a holiday stand-up.
The two Halloween projects are small ornaments by Janet Z Casey. My husband was sick in the fall and I was working on the casket in the ICU. He was no where near in need of a casket but I really had to think if it was in good taste to work on this in such a somber place but it was my travel project at the time. In my defense, the visit to the hospital was a surprise and I did not have time to pick a more appropriate project.
Coyote in the Afternoon is designed by Barbara Elmore and taught at EGA National in Phoenix. The picture below is a postcard from the original artist. I am pretty proud of this needlepoint and I am happy I was able to finish it. Barbara is a fun teacher and fabulous designer.

Now lets move on to what is in process. Some of these projects you may see for a while because they are big. Please do not think this is all I have in process but these are the ones currently catching my attention.
The Frog is by Edie and Ginger. I took this as a class with a stitch guide by Tony Minieri. This project was also chosen by the Guild Ladies as my challenge project to have completed by January 2017. At one point in November, I hoped to do a flower a week and get this project done. HaHaHa! We will have to wait and see the progress in 2016.
Sometimes I just need knots. This is a French knot and Colonial knot project by Teresa Layman. I have had this project in process for a while but it did not take off until the Christmas/New Year holiday break. It is a little rough on the hands but making all the knots is good for the soul.
Daisy Delight is a class from EGA National Seminar in San Antonio. This will be a Japanese Embroidery purse taught and designed by Mary Alice Sinton. It was a great class! The purse is beautiful when it is done.

Finally, this came in the mail today so this may get my focus for the next few weeks. The Berry Bandit is a crewel project offered through the Shining Needle Society and designed by Barbara Jackson. I have never done any crewel work so this will be a new experience. It was designed for all levels so hopefully I will be able to successfully complete this project.

Well this is enough about me. I will have some more things to share shortly. Windy City EGA is planning the regional seminar in Chicago in 2017 so we have lots of fun things going on and I cannot wait to see the classes the ladies picked. I have high hopes there will be something different from the usual offerings.

Please drop me a note and let me know people are still following the blogs. Rumor on Facebook is people still like blogs. If you have a blog, let me know your site and I can start following you as well.

Take care and Happy Stitching,
I thought I would pop back into the blogging world. I was working at home on Monday and we had some sunlight so I got some pictures of the projects I have been working on.

Since I last wrote, I went to the EGA National Seminar in Louisville. This year I only went for four days but I think I could have stayed longer at this seminar because I was having a good time. I had a fun class with Gary Clark and two days of studio time. I had an enormous suite at the hotel but it did not have any natural light so it was difficult to stitch or hang out in. I have pre-registered for next years EGA seminar in Phoenix and I am planning on going to ANG as well since it is in Chicago and there is not much excuse not to go. If enough people sign up, I am going to get to pilot one of Kay Stanis' ANG projects in April which sounds like lots of fun.

Here are pictures from my class with Gary Clark. The first picture is of his instructions. The purple and green piece will be the scissor fob. The purple and gold piece is done and it will be a needle case. Gary had his finished as a picture book with a heavy paper in the middle. I am not a fan of using paper with a piece of needlework that I spent so much time on to complete. I think I will buy some nice felt/wool to make pages on the inside. A cool part of his design is at the top of the picture you can see kind of purple and gold circles. This makes up the side of the book, like a book binding in a real book. The final piece is the scissor holder. This piece is still a work in progress. I was making good progress then Thanksgiving got in the way.
In my last post I was working on the Gingerbread House. Donna commented on my post that she did not think the suggested purple background was right, so I was off to the store to see what I could find. At Northshore Needleworks, they helped me pick out a Plant Earth blue silk with sparkles. I am happy with the color and blue does make a lot more sense for a sky. Thanks for the suggestion Donna! I get in a rut and heaven forbid I do not follow the stitch guide. I did use a blue stamp on the background so the white canvas would not show through.

I have two little projects that I completed. The first is a little embroidered witch which hold Tic-Tac's. Everyone really needs a Tic-Tac holder for the holiday:) It was the October Spooky Surprise project from my EGA guild. My other project is Stitch and Zip project that I got off of Ebay. It was a good throw in the bag project but those Stitch and Zip projects are a bigger pain than they are worth. It is so difficult to get into the seam areas. I think at some point this one will get donated to a fundraising basket.

Finally, here are two of my WIPs that I have been working on lately. First is my Grizzly Bear in needle painting. This bad boy is my challenge piece and is supposed to be completed by the January Guild meeting. I think I decided that needle painting is not really for me. I will need a little more time pressure to get this one done. It is a lot of thread changes and repetitive stitches.

My next ornament was my car project on the way to Thanksgiving. We have a three hour drive to get to the town I grew up in and where my family still lives. I did get most of the box and more or the background done since this picture. I want to get this ornament done so I can start a new one before the holiday break.

Next Friday I am starting my holiday break until the New Year. I am going to spend ten days in Florida, then come back for the family Christmas dinners, and a few days on my own. I have big plans for my needlepoint and reading but most likely it will be more about shopping, eating, friends, family, and wine. Fortunately, the condo is about ten miles from the newly expanded Needlepoint in Paradise. I can't wait to see the changes. I have not been down to the Florida condo in over a year. I have been to Florida a few times but I was on the Miami side of the state.

Well if I don't get back to my blog before the holidays, I hope everyone has very Merry Christmas and Happy and Healthy New Year.

Life has been going on and it has not been crazy busy. I just have not been blogging. We have had some fun events like a wedding at the Four Seasons in Palm Beach and we just returned from a family vacation in Islamorada which is in the Florida Keys. I have a couple of more summer trips planned for summer with a wedding in New York and the EGA National Seminar in Louisville which is sneaking up on me.

Let's get to the fun stuff that a stitching blog is all about. I may not have been blogging but I have been stitching this summer. I finished a couple of old but beautiful projects. The first project is the completed Funky Rose by Terri Dryden. This project is from an ANG National Seminar a couple of years ago. I believe it might have been in Columbus. I am not sure how I am going to have this finished so right now it is hanging in a closet.

Below is my completed Mayan Lighting by Dianne Herrmann. This was a pilot class but I did not get this project done in a very timely basis. I think I want this finished in a shinny black box but right now it is hanging on the same hanger with Funky Rose.

The Prague ornament was bought last year at the EGA Seminar. This is a hand painted ornament by Silver Needle. The picture does not do this ornament any justice. It is all done in Planet Earth silk, Accentuate, and Kreinik Metallic threads. I have bought Dupioni Silk in royal blue for finishing the back.
The New York Taxi Cab is by Princess and Me. I had fun stitching this ornament. The hub caps are great! The yellow is a Jessica stitch and the inside is a cross stitch in silver Kreinik ribbon. The windows are ribbon floss in Opal and I am very happy with the look. The finishing for this one is bright yellow Dupioni Silk.
My poor Flamingo project is in need of an iron. This is a Teresa Layman project that was created for the EGA Seminar in Naples a couple of years ago. It is stitched with thousands of French and colonial knots. I find these projects very relaxing and I usually have one of Teresa's projects going. I am still working on kitting my next project from Teresa.
To make sure you don't think I am an overachiever, here are some of my works in process. Above is a Margaret Kinsey Rozashi project. We were lucky enough to have Margaret at our guild back in June teaching these stitches and sharing this project with us. I do some crazy small work but I find this work is hard on my eyes. I will finish this project but I am not sure this is a stitch type that I will do a lot of in the future.
Above is another Princess and Me ornament. This was my project last week in the Florida Keys. I have most of the bottom part of the house done. I am thinking about the background on this project and I would welcome any suggestions. The stitch guide says to use basket weave in DMC 550 - dark purple. The picture that came with the canvas looks like she used Kreinik in the background. I have the DMC and purple Kreinik or I could use the DMC floss and a purple Accentuate. What I don't want to do is basket weave in the background. This project already has a lot of basket weave and it takes a while to do a background in basket weave. Any suggestions on other stitches that would look good with this lovely little house. I would also be happy to use any combination of threads to achieve a nice background look. I have been flipping though my books but the right thing has not hit me yet.
I am getting ready for a fun weekend and hopefully we will have warm weather. Tonight is a fund raiser for a local park and this weekend a friend from Singapore is in town and maybe a Cubs game. My final picture is what I view when I am at my outside nest. They middle flowers are about on their last leg but they have given me many hours of prettiness over the summer.
I have been gone every weekend since the end of January and I am thrilled to be home this weekend. This blog is for my friend. She wanted me to bring my stands to the Guild Retreat but I had to miss the retreat. So here are my pros and cons to two of the more popular stands, the Lowery and the System 4.

My Nest

This is my usual stitching chair in my bedroom. I have my own TV and DVR so I am set for hour of stitching goodness. I would say this chair has normal sized arm rests which is important to consider when looking at stands. I think your most important factor when investing in a stand is to think about the chair you will most often be working at. If you have a Lazy Boy type of chair or one of the Italian leather chairs with the round bottoms, the System 4 may not work for you.

This is my chaise with my Lowery stand and the long arm attachment. I am demonstrating with a project that is on 11x11 stretcher bars and I would consider this to be a medium size project. Notice with the long arm, the project is about at the middle of my chair so this is very comfortable to work on.

Here is the same project with the short arm that comes with the Lowery stand. I very rarely use this arm because I have to cuddle into the arm to get to my piece but this arm would work fine if you have an armless chair or working in a banquet or folding chair.

Here you can see the difference in the size of the arms. The daisy holder will work on either arm and the arms are very easy to change by just sliding them into the base. The Lowery stand can be adjusted to the height you want by moving a pin in the bottom of the stand. The next picture has a good view of the pin. If I recall correctly, the long arm was another $100 dollars. I got it for a Christmas present which mom did not think was all that impressive but bought it any way. If you are luckily, I have heard of people getting their talented husbands or friends to make them a long arm.

The down side to the Lowery is the base is not that stable. I fixed my problem by adding a little used weight to the base on my stand. When you get a heavy piece on the top the stand becomes top heavy and tilts over. This is not very good for when you have to leave your chair for more tea or a restroom break. I have heard that they have made the base a little bigger so this my not be an issue with the newer stands. The Lowery base is flat so it would work well with a chair with little clearance. This chair is off the floor about 3 inches and both stands work.

Now lets move on to the System 4. I bought the System 4 folding stand for travel. Mainly because I was taking a big project at one of the National Seminars. I think the regular stands will work pretty much the same way other than it will not fold up. I personally really like the fact that this folds up and I have it stored above in a yoga mat bag. I really like the Hug Me bags but I have not brought myself to spend as much money on a bag as the stand itself. My yoga mat bag was something like $25.00 on Amazon and it stores my yoga mat when I am not traveling with my stand.

This picture is my System 4 with my chair. It is really not long enough to work with this chair. Again I am cuddled into the corner with this stand.
I do love this stand when I work with a chair like my folding chair and it works well with my office chair. These pictures show how it can be used on the side of the chair or in front. The Lowery will do this as well. I have had a teacher say the feet on these stands are all over the place and they are easy to trip on. Since the feet are all over the place, it is a very stable stand and does not require the weights I have to use with the Lowery. The base of the System 4 is 1.5 inches so make sure this will fit under your chair.

Both stands will hold large stretcher bars (I think I have gone up to 18 inch) or little projects like the 4 inch hoop on the stand above.

My other stitching chair has taller arms and only has about 2.5 inches from the bottom of the chair to the floor and the System 4 works with this chair. The Lowery with the long arm is better because you don't have to curl up into the arm. You can also work from the front in this chair.

Okay that is my take on the two stands. I am lucky to have both stands. They both have there advantages and disadvantages. These are not small purchases so look around for the best prices. I don't remember much about buying the Lowery but with the System 4, I wanted to support a local shop. She was $100 dollars more than what I found from a lady on the West Coast and a shop in Florida so needless to say, the local shop did not get my business.

BTW... For little projects like the Teresa Layman French knot project, I like my K's lap frame.
Now that you have seen my toys, I can show you that I actually used my stands. This is a project that I finished from the 2012 EGA seminar. This is Dawn Donnelly's Cool Yule. To finish this project, I used my folding chair, my System 4, and my bed to hold my beads to complete this project.

I also completed a couple of book marks for the Guild literacy project with the library. The top book mark is an EGA Petite project with reversible black work. I don't see too many reversible black work pieces in my future.

Well there are many other things going on in life right now but I think I have had a long enough post. Hope you all enjoy your weekend. I am sure looking forward to being home.
For that I do apologize and I would like to thank everyone for their kind thoughts and prayers. Even though I have not been blogging, I have been stitching. I look like I am killing it (by my standards) but most of the projects are small projects I can take along on trips.

Since I last blogged I have been to the EGA National Seminar, to Philadelphia with a friend for a medical procedure (without a visit to the needlepoint stores), three major holiday's, and downstate every few weeks to check in with the family. That is why I am kind of heavy on the ornaments and small projects but I do have one big one done that I will get to in a bit.

National seminar was a great time. I had some wonderful classes and teachers. The hotel was far from a favorite but I understand EGA has to go where there is space to fit their unique needs for many class rooms. My first class was with Tanja Berlin. I have never done needle painting before this class so that was a great learning experience. I have not worked on this since I have been back but my Guild picked this as my challenge piece to have done by next January so hopefully you will see some progress through the year.

My second two day class was Cool Yule by Dawn Donnelly. This has been fun and I am hoping to finish this one up this weekend so I can have my stretcher bars for a travel project for next weekend. I have to finish the purple base and the background stitching and beading.

My nightly project at seminar was a belt. The canvas will be made into Eliza B flip flops once I get them out to the finisher. This belt is complete with 20 shoes in repeats of 5.

Once I had the shoes done, I started on a travel ornament for the plane ride home and this little cutie by Princess and Me is off at the finisher.

Right before Thanksgiving a close friend had surgery in Philadelphia so I flew out with her because she had to have someone to be with her after the surgery. I had plenty of free time so I worked on the Frog ornament from Princess and Me. While he is not done in this picture, it is all done and also with the finisher.

My time at home in December was spent working on my Windy City Santa so it could be complete for my Guild Challenge piece in December. Well, I did not meet that goal but I did finish him up yesterday. As you can see from the picture he still has some fold marks. Not sure what to do about that. You would think all the years on stretcher bars would have solved that problem. If anyone has a brilliant solution to this problem, please leave me a comment. I have not tried the most obvious of an iron yet.

Finally, I found this little Fox at my mom's house. My aunt bought him and she managed to stitch about an inch of basket weave in the corner before giving up. She just did not have the patience for needle work. Not to mention this was not a good beginning project. It is a hand painted canvas but it was not needle painted. I finished him up yesterday and I will take him to the finisher tomorrow. Once he is all complete I will give him back to my aunt. Her maiden name was Fox so that is why she bought him in the first place. I will have him made into a stand up picture so she can use him on a shelf or on a table.
This weekend is my monthly Guild meeting and a wedding shower for a friend. It is going to be a full day tomorrow but hopefully, Sunday will be my day of needlepoint and I will be able to show you a finished Cool Yule!

We leave a week from tomorrow for Mexico. It will be nice to be warm and to get some sunshine. I did not go to my family's Florida home for the holiday's so I have not been on a warm trip in a while. I am planning my needlepoint and my books with great care.

I do have some nice stash enhancements but I will save them for another other day. I hope all my Northeast friends make it through the weekend safely and keep warm. It is not so bad to be stuck at home if you have all your needlework, provisions, electricity, and heat.

Have a great weekend and I hope to visit many of your blogs soon! Kelly
I have not blogged in four months. Yikes! Life went a little crazy this summer and I did not get around to the blog. My husband spent about five months working in Charlotte, NC and commuting home on the weekends. This time period really messed with my life for some reason and when, for all practical purposes, I should have accomplished tons of things, very little besides day to day maintenance of my job, my condo, feeding myself, and IPad took place. Well, life is kind of back to normal. DH got a new job in Chicago so he is living at home and back to cooking for me.

While I have been away, some stitching has taken place. Mainly I have been working on my travel piece because I am rarely home on the weekends any more. Over the summer I finished a pilot piece for Dianne Herrmann on for her Color Theory class. I am not really sure what I am going to do with this piece. If anyone has some good finishing ideas, please leave a comment. I thought about having it finished as a stand-up for the holiday season.

My ornament by Princess and Me of Santa and the Pea was done on my last post but here is a picture now that he is finished into an ornament.

I happened to be home this weekend and my Guild had the fifth Saturday stitch-in so I spent some time with Windy City Santa by Libby Sturdy. I worked on his jacket and the yellow lines that are in the background. This guy should not be that hard to finish before the holiday's.

Finally, this is the piece I have spent the most time with since August. The belt canvas will be finished into Eliza B flip flops. With the stress of life it has been great to have a project that consists of only basket weave. I have 12 of the 20 shoes done so I am over half way done. In this picture, you can see the five repeating motif's. The shoes are all done in Kreinik and the back ground is being done in Burmilana.

I have been traveling some. In August, I got to spend a week in Florida at my family's home in Bonita Springs. We did take a few day's and went over to Key Largo so my husband could dive. I visited Needlepoint in Paradise twice that week. I finished kitting up the Shoe canvas and on my second trip, I kitted up a couple of Princess and Me ornaments. Later in September, we went to our friends wedding at The America's Club in Kohler, Wisconsin. I never had a desire to go to The America's Club because it is "only Wisconsin" and who would pay that a night to stay in Wisconsin. Let me tell you, it is a beautiful resort with a wonderful spa. It was most likely cheaper to spend a week in Florida than a weekend in Wisconsin, but I would be happy to go back for another lovely weekend.

In September, I spent several weekends downstate at my parents house. My dad has Alzheimer's and we are trying to get him into a nursing home. So far, he has been kicked out of two. The first one did not work because it was not a lock down facility and he kept trying to escape. The second one, he got combative and aggressive towards the guests and staff. For about the past three weeks he has been in the hospital. They are trying to get his medicine right so he is not as mean and can be moved into another nursing home with a dedicated Alzheimer's wing.

One of the weekends I was downstate, Mom and I decided she should get away and we went to St. Louis for a couple day's away. I did get to visit the Sign of the Arrow needlepoint shop. That shop mainly sells belt canvases and threads. The people of St Louis must make a ton of belts because the shop was packed. The store did have some beautiful canvases. If you ever get to the Sign of the Arrow, make a day of shopping the boutiques around the shop. I found some clothes and some house ware things that were very unique.

In October I will continue to go downstate every few weekends but the big event is at the end of the month when I go to EGA National Seminar in Santa Fe. I am already gathering my supplies. Actually, the teachers are not asking for much beyond basic stitching supplies but my main concern was having the right size of Evertites available for the projects. Now mind you, I probably have 40 sets of Evertites, but you only get to this amount by never having the right size for the different projects. Well, I must finally have enough, because I have the right sizes for the classes.

I should be able to get back to some more regular stitching and I can spend more time on my blog and catching up with all of your blogs. I read a few this morning and there is some good stuff to look at beyond Pinterest:) I hope everyone is enjoying the fall. Happy stitching and Go Bears.

Take care everyone.
I have been in my yearly spring stitching slump. Every spring, the weather turns nice and I get more in a reading mood rather than a stitching mood. This year even reading took a back seat to life. Well, I did not abandon stitching entirely during this time, I just slowed down and did not feel I had anything to show my stitching friends. You really do not want to hear about the amount of time I spend on the terrace or in my stitching chair playing on the IPad or watching bad reality TV.

Let me start out with my stitching. Last time I wrote about two months ago, I was working on the background of Santa and the Pea by Princess and Me. I was hoping to finish this last night but I got too tired. All that is left is the little bit at the bottom of the ornament and a few more beads/snowflakes.
I piloted a two day class with Diane Herrmann that will be taught in Santa Fe, this fall. It is call Color Theory with a Twist. This is a fun class for anyone interested in color theory and you can complete the project or use this as a notebook class. I am working on the project because it is a pilot. The project is not that difficult so it is a good project to work on when you just don't have it in you to do something difficult. While the class is just three leaves, most people that took the class are going to buy the supplies for the entire Mobius Band. I did not take a picture but I have a lot of the stump work lady bug done.
Another class I am taking started on June 1st. It is a cyberclass taught by Janet Perry on how to create your own stitch guide. We have only had one lesson so far but the discussion board is going to be very interesting. I am looking forward to this class.

As I mentioned earlier, I have been spending way to much time on my IPad. This has lead me to spend way too much time on EBay. I have three new canvases. Two are Princess and Me Ornaments which I like to have on hand for travel projects and I finally have a Edie and Ginger Frog. The frog I bought is a stitched model in Needlepoint in Paradise and I have admired him for years. Now I just need to get busy planning my stitch guide and sitting down to stitch.
I have been doing a little traveling for work. I have been to a meeting in Denver in April and training last week in Dallas. I decided not to go to Bead and Button on Friday because that would just lead to another project. Instead, I am going out shopping and lunch with a friend I have not seen in a while. Saturday is my Guild meeting and the H2O bath product warehouse sale which happens to be across the street from my house. This sale is fun because they give you a cardboard box with a rope to drag around and put your bath products in until you pay for them. Saturday night is the going away party for a friend moving to Charlotte.

Speaking of Charlotte, my husband has been living there for over two months. He comes home every weekend and the being away from home is getting a little old for him. While the first two months were a little hard, I am getting the hang of having the house to myself. I am not thrilled with feeding myself, but I am eating the way I like to eat which is more veggies and less meat. I am going out with my friends more and I figured out the cat and cat box are a complete pain in the butt. He is old, so he is forgiven.

Over Memorial Day we were able to get the outdoor plants done. I think they turned out nice and I think they will grow up to be very pretty. I was down state last weekend and was told about Supertunia's and I want to still buy a planter of those because they look like fun. The first picture is the front balcony and this is the perfect environment for Inpatients. The second picture is from the south facing terrace with full sunshine. There are three planters on the terrace and two on the balcony.
You might think after a month absence I might have something great and wonderful to show for myself, but I don't. I have been busy and stitching has not made the progress that I could hope for. On St. Patrick's Day weekend, my Guild had a retreat at the Oak Brook Hills Marriott. We got to do a little shopping and lots of stitching. I worked on the background of the Princess and Me ornament above. The background was an easy thing to do in a group setting. The weather that weekend was beautiful so this was also an easy project to take outside. I also worked on Frog Stew which is pictured below. I mainly worked on the sky and the purple sleeve.

The next weekend was a pilot class for Night Owls. This will be taught by Diane Herrmann at EGA National Seminar in the fall. It is an excellent class. I will learn a lot on this piece. I did not take a picture of the canvas because my little bit of progress and spaghetti is shameful. Once I get a little more done I will show you a picture of the piece.

Since it is pretty obvious that stitching has not been my only focus let me tell you about some of the other things that are going on around here. Last weekend I made a last minute trip downstate to my parents home. My mom thought she could use some help since they just moved back North from their winter home in Florida. My dad has dementia and moving was very stressful on him and the rest of us. It was a very welcome bottle of wine when I got home.

My DH has moved to North Carolina for a consulting position for six to nine months. He is going to come home on the weekends or I will go down there. I am not used to having to do everything around the house. I am more accustomed to being the Queen of the house! I do have Seattle Sutton doing my cooking. This food is pretty good and I have even lost a few pounds. I am getting used to living on my own.

I have been reading. My reading goes up when the weather turns nice and I can sit outside. I really enjoyed Mill River Recluse, Divergent and Slaughterhouse Five. My book club picked Fifty Shades of Grey for our next book. If you want to get your smut on, it is really good but not for the those apposed to a dirty book. I said it will be a $30 dollar book club because I am going to have to finish the trilogy.

Well that is about all that is going on in my world. If you celebrate Easter, have a wonderful holiday! We are not doing much for Christian Easter but I am going to Greek Easter next weekend at a friends house which is always fun.Kellyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16147835732752604283noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8733551383425556765.post-38628345117746783922012-02-29T09:31:00.001-08:002012-02-29T09:31:33.862-08:00Belize and Santa and the PeaWe are having a great time in Belize. The pictures of the pool and sea are from my morning stitching nest. DH dives in the morning and I stitch or read until he gets back. From there, it is lunch, pool time, happy hour, cleanup and dinner. Not a bad day at all!!

I have been stitching on Santa and the Pea. I hate the suggested thread for mattress two so that is going to have to be done when I get home. The stitch guide has a dark green background and DH and I think it is too dark and matches the last mattress. I am thinking about a lighter green. If anyone has any suggestions, I would love to hear from you! This change is a bummer because I will have to leave the background until I get home and basket weave on the plane would have been a good brainless task.

I did finish reading the Midget House. It was a free Kindle book. It was a good story. I am also working on Game of Thrones which is wonderful but very much like the HBO show.

When we get home DH should start a new consulting job in North Carolina so more about that when I am on a real computer.

Back to stitching in paradise. BTW.. Not sure about the pictures on blogger for iPad. This is my first try and it may not be good.<div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Kellyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16147835732752604283noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8733551383425556765.post-25804476553063849182012-02-13T09:05:00.000-08:002012-02-13T09:05:46.506-08:00Finished the Wave
Good morning! First, I want to show you my Wave project. This was a pilot project for Diane Herrmann. This project is impressive in person. The colors and the design are wonderful. It was a very relaxing piece to stitch. I was cursing eyelets and beads by the end because I could see the finish line but my progress was going slow. I am really happy with the star fish. I am not sure I have ever actually done a bullion knot. I did do a few practice knots to get the hang of this. They did end up hurting my fingers but that is most likely my fault for wrapping too tight around the needle. I am not sure how I am going to have this finished. There is a bedroom in the Bonita Springs condo that has a blue coverlet so this would be perfect in that room.
I really did not get that much accomplished on this piece for the amount of time I spent with Windy City Santa. I don't expect to get much done in classes but I spent most of yesterday on this project as well. In class, I managed to get in the Ferris wheel. This is a Jessica stitch with a couple of spokes and a few French knots. This went along swimmingly in class and then I am picking out encroaching Gobelin later in the day. Who knows what will work for you on a given day and what won't. Since my last post, I did finish all the buildings on the right hand side of his jacket, the yellow in the skyline, a bit of blue in his coat, and I worked a bit on the ground/snow.

I really did not do all that much but I got a few more threads into the background. This is an Erica Michael's design that was sold at EGA National Seminar in Naples, FL last year.

Maybe I will be able to get another post in this week because I might have more to show. DH is hanging out with my parents in Florida the week. My father's mental health is not that great so DH is hoping to give my mother a break. DH is so much more nurturing than me. He cooks, cleans, golfs, climbs ladders, fixes thing, and in general will have more patience with dad. Plus, someone besides their children can sometimes tell them better to get him signed up in day care or hire some help.

Another bonus with him traveling is that he usually gets job offers while he is away. He is close to getting a full-time job or a consulting job with four different companies. If this trip does not get him a job, we will be in Belize in a couple of weeks. Dealing with interviews and head hunters while out of the country is always interesting but if he gets a job, it is worth it!

That is about all that is going here. A week alone means quick dinners, a few household tasks, and evenings of stitching which sounds wonderful. Now watch everyone come around and want to do stuff since I am alone which is very kind but it will cut into my stitching plans.Kellyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16147835732752604283noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8733551383425556765.post-91081147639104236402012-01-30T07:35:00.000-08:002012-01-30T07:35:10.940-08:00Slow but steady progress

Happy Monday! I have been doing some stitching but it seems I can work a few hours but I am not making great progress in any one sitting. Windy City Santa is ready for our second class with Libby Sturdy next Saturday. All my homework is done plus I finished the water, added the boats, added the grass, and finished a few more buildings. I am happy with what I have done. This piece was chosen as my 2012 challenge piece to finish by next January.

I have also been spending some time with the wave piece. I am almost done with row 21 of 26 row in the total project. Then I will need to add eyelets and the starfish near the white thread (where the water meets the sand.) I am working on this piece because it has one set of my 12 inch stretcher bars. I need a frame that is 12x12 for a class I am taking on February 18th and 19th and I really do not want to buy bars if I can help it. I will have to take Frog Stew off for the other set of bars but this is the economical thing to do. If DH gets a job this week, then I may be over this economizing thing and buying one more 12 inch set.

I have also been busy reading library books. I finished 1Q84 by Haruki Murakami. This book was around 950 pages so it was like reading 3 books and it took a while. It was pretty good but not sure I would say you have to go out and get this book unless you are a fan of the author. This is the first book of his that I have read. Now I am reading The Tigers Wife by Tea Obreht. I am about half way through this book. Again this one is OK but I am not telling anyone to rush out and buy this either.

On a less refined note and probably where my mind needs to be right now. Loved catching up on the Bachelor and 24 Hour Catwalk yesterday. Recently, I watched half of the this seasons Dexter and this is another great season. Finally, I finished season one of Boardwalk Empire. Loved it!!

We did have a big weekend and the Happy Monday comment is more to psyche myself into believing it. On Friday, about 15 of us went out for Tapas. It was a good time but we got home late. On Saturday night we had friends over that we met on our trip to the Turks in December. They came in with a ton of wine and we killed it all. DH made a wonderful meal of shrimp and scallops with a chipotle butter sauce for starters, the main meal was a cassoulet and an asparagus dish with poached egg and pancetta. For desert, he made a tort. This turned into another late night so by last night I could not get relaxed even though I should have been exhausted. Oh well, the work week is to straighten out the bad habits from the weekend:)

Hope everyone has a great week with lots of stitching time. Cheers!Kellyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16147835732752604283noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8733551383425556765.post-74199179542559835512012-01-10T09:46:00.000-08:002012-01-10T09:46:12.519-08:00Beautie!!

Excuse the wrinkles and the poor photos. Beautie has been traveling and has to go to Guild on Saturday so I can show everyone that I finished my challenge piece. The second picture is so you can see the spangles. I am supper happy that this three, maybe four year, WIP is done. I am not sure what I am going to do with this. People suggested a fire screen and that is a good idea. I do have a fire place but I am going to think on this for a while. If you have any suggestions, I would love to hear them.
I am working on the homework for the class in February. I finished his mittens, I worked on the background, I did the green down the center of the coat and I worked on the buildings. I was a little intimidated by the building but once you get going they are not that big of deal. Part of the homework was to finish the building to the far right so we can put the Farris wheel in. I think I will continue to work on this for a bit since I am happy with my progress. Maybe I will make this next year’s Guild Challenge piece. This one has been in my WIP pile for several years.

The big news yesterday was DH quit his job. We found out Saturday night that the company he was working for was shopping his job. He was not happy at this company and was looking for another job so this was the final straw. They mutually agreed that it would be best if he just left the company. It will all work out for the best. He worked his contacts yesterday and he has a third interview for a global roll with an investment bank. He has an interview today with another investment bank and he started his consulting company back up. He is going to help a friend market a product he developed. I would say that was pretty good progress for one day out of a job.

Have you seen the latest issue of Bon Appetit? They have veggie tart on the front cover this month. It was a ton of work to make but it is delicious. I am looking forward to left overs for lunch. With my chef unemployed, there will be lots of good eating at our house. He was taking requests from the neighbors last night.

I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season. I decided I really liked not working but life would not be as much fun without the paycheck.

I finished the Night at the Opera ornament by Princess and Me. He went to the finisher on Saturday. I think he turned out cute and he was a fairly quick stitch.

I did finish stitching Beautie Spot while I was in Naples for Christmas. When I got home, I ironed the piece and a little bit of color ran under the deer. I fixed the problem by picking out the black and adding a couple more rows of stitching so all is well. I am adding the spangles which are not in this picture. I added all the spangles that I had but I am about 20 spangles short. They were shipped yesterday so this is getting so close to finished and I will post a final picture soon!!

Our guild had a stitch-in on New Years Eve day. We had a great turnout of 15 ladies. I worked on Windy City Santa but I did not take a picture. That night we had a dinner party for eight friends and two babies. DH made southern appetizers of shrimp and grits, chicken and waffles, and biscuits and gravy. For dinner he made a filet, twice baked potatoes and creamed spinach. It was a wonderful meal and lots of wine. It is great to live with a man that loves to cook and he cleans up.

I hope 2012 brings much happiness, good health, and lots of stitching time.
Kellyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16147835732752604283noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8733551383425556765.post-90145732781323258922011-12-21T07:59:00.000-08:002011-12-21T08:54:34.427-08:00

Considering I have been traveling every other week this month, I have a lot of stitching to show. My first picture is of Beautie Spot. I am currently working on the bunny and the boarder. The bunny is a little creepy without his eye and his ears. They are soon to come. Hopefully the next time I blog about Beautie, it will be done and ironed.
I spent my mornings under cover and stitched on this Princess and Me Santa. I have him finished down to the background which I hope to finish up on Friday so I can take another ornament to Naples. I might have finished him but security did not like my little kid scissors so they took them away. Some countries don't allow points so these had rounded ends but they were too big. No big loss. I only carry on scissors that I don't care if they are taken away. Hopefully the scissors will be donated to some school kid. The poverty is pretty bad on the island.
The water in the Turks is beautiful. DH got in 9 dives on this trip so I had a lot of time at the adult pool. I did spend a couple of days on the beach but I am really more of a pool person because I don't like the sand in everything and on me. We stayed at the Veranda which turned out to be condos. It was nice to have a washer and dryer in the unit. This was an all-inclusive vacation. The food was good and the booze was top shelf. We meet a lovely couple from Chicago and we shared many bottles of Champagne by the pool one afternoon.

While my mornings were spent with Santa. My afternoons were spent with Kindle. Let me just say that I love that the library loans books on Kindle. All three books I read came from the Chicago Public library. My first book was a little older, The Story of Edgar Sawtell. It was pretty good. I had a hard time with this book because I kept waiting on the dog to die. The death of animals makes me cry and I knew this was going to be part of the book. I will not read Marley and Me because I heard the dog dies. The second book was The Night Circus. I really enjoyed this book. Finally, I read Girls in White Dresses. This is a girly book and this is not my usual genre. I only read this because the author was from Chicago. This book is good if you are looking for this type of read.

I leave on Saturday for Naples for a week. I am done with my Christmas shopping however most of the gifts involve cash, checks, or gift certificates. DH ordered his own Christmas present before the Turks. He got a dive computer which he used on vacation. The only other gifts I bought were for my parents. Part of those are already in Florida and I will bring down a few gifts. New Years Eve is a stitching day with the guild ladies and we are hosting a wine tasting party for a small group of friends.

I hope everyone has a wonderful Holiday Season. Enjoy your family and friends but I hope you can find a little time to stitch.Kellyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16147835732752604283noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8733551383425556765.post-86732785300713777752011-12-01T12:22:00.000-08:002011-12-01T12:22:46.438-08:00

Hi, I am back from my trip to Florida and trying to catch up with every one's blogs. Thank you for the kind comments on my last post. I did not respond to everyone individually because I did not even look at the blogs for about a week. I am getting caught up and everything is pretty much under control.

I did get a lot of stitching done on this trip. I started the snowman ornament that is pictured above on my plane ride down. He turned out really cute. I still have the background to work on but that is a good task for my next trip.

I got to visit Needlepoint in Paradise while I was in Naples. They are having a fun trunk show with Edie and Ginger frogs. I did contain myself so far but I am bidding on Ebay for a frog. I bought the thread to work on the flamingo scissor fob from the EGA National Seminar. This is done on 40 count silk gauze with one strand of Splendor. I added one strand of Accentuate to the blurry, blue swirls. These may be famous last words, but this project is moving along quickly. I should have the motifs done shortly and then I will have to work on filling in the background. This whole picture will only be around 2 inches by two inces when complete.

While I was in Florida, a professional sand castle event was going on. The sand castles and artists are amazing. Here is a sample of my favorites.
The pink fabric will be used for the finishing. I just love dupioni silk for finishing. I gave these projects plus some others to the finisher last March. She did a nice job but since it took so long she did not even charge me for the finishing. She did have four more pieces to finish but she did not even get to those. I asked for my other pieces back because eight months is ridiculous. I got to worrying about never getting my projects back. I will let my friend finish my pieces and she will have them back to me in a month or so.

I am all packed and project ready to go to Florida tomorrow. I have some very high expectations for the projects. I spent more time gathering projects than I spent on packing. Plus, I have three library books for the trip. The evenings are quiet and there is not much to do after we eat on Thanksgiving so I might manage to get some things done. We are going to the Club for dinner so no one has to cook or clean but the food is not the same as homemade. My husband usually does all the cooking but he has to stay home due to work. I am grateful he has a job but I like it better when he consults because he does not work as much and can play with me.

I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday with lots of good food, family, and friends.Kellyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16147835732752604283noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8733551383425556765.post-59370791232849192982011-11-15T11:46:00.000-08:002011-11-15T11:46:23.226-08:00Let me show you the bird and the bride!

First, I want to thank everyone for their kind comments and notes on my last post. I have never had that many comments on one post in my year of blogging!! It was so exciting. I got tons of comments on my Long Dog Sampler, Beautie Spot. The Dodo was much more painful than he should have been but he was completed last night. Now I am on to the final large motif and some finishing touches including the boarder, initials, dates and spangles.
I did not get much stitching done over the weekend because of my oldest nieces wedding. The bride was beautiful and the other picture has six of my older nieces and nephews. It was an adult only reception. I have seven more nieces and nephews not in the picture. The three on the left were in the wedding party. I loved the brown bridesmaid dresses. We also had a baptism on Sunday for my neighbor's baby. Anna was a real cutie in her white dress but I failed to get a picture of her. Her gown was from the train of her mother's wedding dress.
That is about as exciting as it gets around here. I am almost done with my French knot Pig but I want to save that for another riveting post in the future. Have a fabulous week! This was a big stitching week for me. I did not have much going on most of the week and worked on my stitching in the evenings. Saturday was a class on Windy City Santa with Libby Sturdy. I had a lot of what she was teaching done but it was a good class. It help build my confidence and I will get this piece done. It may take a while but I am not as intimidated by this piece as I once was.

Early in the week I worked on Frog Stew. I finished couching the moon and the cauldron. I added the logs and flames below the cauldron. (One of my logs looks like a boy's private parts. I really need to change that!!) Finally, I worked on some of the blue sky. That stitch covers a large area of this piece so I thought I could start working on some of the completed areas and not leave this all for the end.

Finally, I did spend a bit of time with Beautie Spot. I am working on the Dodo bird. I made a mistake somewhere and I am having to stitch my way through this mistake. It has turned me off this piece and right now it is a chore to work on. Once this bird is done, I only have one more big motif. This is my Guild Challenge piece so this needs to be done by January.

I am not sure how much progress I will continue to get done between now and the New Year. I have two trips to Florida planned and one to the Turks. I am busy buying books and I have to pull together a travel project. Speaking of books, I read Skeletons at the Feast last week and really enjoyed the book. It is about WWII so not a real uplifting book but very well written. It was my first upload for the Kindle from the public library. It worked well and I uploaded a new book to read this week. I am debating if I want to join Amazon Prime for there new offer of a free book a month. I am not sure I need their other services available with Prime so I am just not sure if it is worth it for me.

Well that is about all going on around here. Tonight is the Bears game. I know we are having a friend over so I may not get to stitch. Boo. Then again, he is a good friend and I may just let the boys drink, watch football and I will stitch. Have a great week.
Kellyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16147835732752604283noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8733551383425556765.post-30158202588820239402011-10-31T10:11:00.000-07:002011-10-31T10:11:55.136-07:00Happy Halloween!Happy Halloween! My blog is looking a little more like Christmas than Halloween. I have had a big couple of weeks of stitching but my picture taking is more limited than my stitching. On Saturday, my Guild had a stitching day at the Oak Park Library. My friend that finishes for me was there so I wanted to get this ornament done. I don't care if she has it done by Christmas but it gave me a goal to get the stitching finished.

The same goal applies to Hog Wash but a week later. Next Saturday is our Libby Sturdy, Windy City Santa class and my finishing friend will be there so I want this one done by next Saturday. As you can see from my current picture and how it looked two weeks ago, I did get a lot done for me.

My weekend was filled with stitching and very little else. This should be a good thing but I did go a little stir crazy just hanging around the house. I have three trips booked between Thanksgiving and New Year's so I should take advantage of this down time.

Enjoy your Halloween and the little Ghosts and Goblins that will hit the streets tonight!Kellyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16147835732752604283noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8733551383425556765.post-42862894409886167992011-10-17T09:13:00.000-07:002011-10-17T09:13:49.847-07:00Happy Monday morning!! I feel like I have already put in a full day and in reality it is not even lunch time yet. DH had early morning calls with Asia and another with Europe so we were up early. Actually, I stayed in bed and read while he was getting ready. I will finish A Discovery of Witches today. I am really enjoying this book and I have heard others say they enjoyed it as well. It is a 600 page Vampire/Witch book so be prepared to spend some time with these creatures.

Speaking of Witches, Frog Stew is coming along. We had a very quiet week and weekend last week so I got a lot of needlepoint done. Last week, I finished her vest, hat, Frogs (other than beaded eyes and back stitching which is done at the end), the moon other than the lower left hand side still needs to be couched and the cauldron which also needs to be couched. I think I will continue to work on her through Halloween and see what I can accomplish.

Hog Wash got a few more knots. I did some of the pink flowers in the boarder and some more grass.

On Friday's, I typically work at home. I had our bed torn apart and I was washing the bedding. I had the sheets done and was waiting on the blankets to dry. I walk into the bedroom and laying on my bed pillow at the end of my chase lounge was my little old man enjoying the down pillow. He is 17 years old so he gets to do what he wants and I have mismatched pillow cases on my bed this week. It is good to be the King!
I worked on my French Knot Pig. Since the last time I showed this project, I finished the sky, all the flowers at the pig's feet and some more of the green, grass. I love doing the FK projects!!

Windy City Santa has been around for several years. I know I am going to look like a kiss ass, but this is going to be a class I am taking with Libby Sturdy at the beginning of November. For some reason the top part of his lapel was confusing me. I wanted to get this in before the class because I knew I could do it if I would think about it a bit. Since the project was out, I finished the bronze stitching along the bottom because it was about half done. Then I did the shoes because that was mainly basket weave and up right crosses. I started the mittens but I think I will put this away until the class. I will be well behaved in class and work on the beard if I am ahead of the others. The beard is not done because I am not sure if I am doing it right. In Libby's picture you can see the gray outline. If I use all that thick wool, then the outline will not show so I am at a loss.

I got a couple pieces back from the finisher. Be Happy was finished into a scissors fob and Be Merry is a little stand up. Both turned out so cute.

Last weekend was the Windy City EGA Chapter's 30th Anniversary party. We had a very nice lunch and several former members were able to join us. We even got a couple of the ladies to come back to the Guild after a few years. Most were still stitching or working at their other art forms.

My weekend should be fairly quiet. I have our regular Guild meeting tomorrow and Sunday is the Chicago Marathon. I live at the half way mark so it is easy to get out and cheer the people on. I have no desire to run a marathon but I have a few friends running. After most runners are through mile 13, Bloody's and Mimosa's will be served. It is supposed to be a beautiful weekend!!

Hope you have a wonderful weekend. It may be our last really good one until Spring!Kellyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16147835732752604283noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8733551383425556765.post-64120201223346775822011-09-21T14:41:00.000-07:002011-09-21T14:41:22.505-07:00Back from EGAHi, I am back from the EGA seminar and caught up enough with life to post. You may want to grab a cup of tea because this could be a long post. My first day, I got settled into the condo and took a run down to the hotel to see how long it would take and to go to dinner and shopping with some friends. They wanted to buy food for their hotel rooms.

Day two was Winning Ways. This is a lecture by four designers on how you would judge different techniques. This year one person spoke about beading, another about smocking, one about lace, and the final speaker talked about multi media. The real goal is to get people to go through the judging program with EGA but most of the people in the class were national teachers and others that just wanted to improve on their own skills. This was a very interesting class, reasonably price, and an enjoyable day even if you have no intention of judging or even doing a technique. (Smocking for example, I cannot for the life of me figure this sport out. It is fine on baby clothes but once a kid is old enough to pick out their own clothes, there will not be any more smocking and someone suggested nightgowns. If I live to be 100, I still don't think I would be old enough to wear a smocked night gown.)

Monday and Tuesday was the Tropical Beading Box. Marsha Papay-Gomola is a wonderful teacher and if you enjoy stump work you should take one of her classes. Even if you can't get to a National Conference, she will be teaching with the Shining Needle Society in the upcoming year but in person would be the best. This class is a stretch of my abilities. I had never done the long and short stitch. I am improving. I may redo part of the wing below because the blue looks a lot better than the red section. Marsha brought tons of models to class and they were spectacular. She is a very talented lady.

It was great to have a break. In the past, I have taken five days of classes and that is a lot. I don't think I will ever take five days of classes in a row again. BTW... It is also nicer to stay at the hotel with everyone but free beat out the convenience of the hotel this year.

Thursday and Friday was Ivory by Carolyn Standing Webb. Carolyn was another wonderful teacher. I took a pulled work class because I did not pull tight enough on my first piece and the second piece is just going to get pitched. My first two pieces were not designed well and they did not use the right linen for pulled work. This class was a whole new experience. The linen is lovely, I can get good, uniform holes but the photograph is crap.

That evening we did Happy Hour at the Club and meet some of the neighbors. Saturday was a little more shopping at the Outlet mall and Coconut Point Mall. In the afternoon, I worked a bit on Ivory. That evening we went to the beach with our neighbors and I was devoured by sand fleas. Those are nasty little bugs. We agreed that was our last sunset at the beach. Sunday was brunch and cleaning up so we could go back to Chicago.

Below is the bit of stash enhancement I picked up. I love silk gauze and French knots so I could not pass up these little projects. They will make good little travel projects and cute ornaments for the tree in Florida.

Finally, I have a couple of financial issues to discuss. First, I went to the library to day and got a library card. Wow, that place is a treasure trove of free. I know, it has been this way for years and I should have caught on. The library is not in a convenient location for me so returning books is a pain and I don't deal with things that are just a pain in my ass. Now they have Kindle and you can order books on line. They also have audio books that can be downloaded to I Pod. Now they are a little short on number of copies but in time I bet they work this out.

My second financial issue, is not so happy. What is up with Needlepoint Now? The new issue has a really nice piece that is a memorial piece to 9/11. This is not necessarily a piece that I would do but it was mentioned on a blog today so I looked it up. This canvas is $300 dollars discounted!! I also know the Leigh piece will be expensive. If I loved a piece, $300 would not be out of the question mind you, but this is a magazine and they should have mass appeal. One would think they would do something that many people would want to do and could afford to do no matter what canvas they choose to highlight. Sure a few people will get a nice stitch guide for the price of the magazine. Maybe this is just my issue and people could choose to do one of the pieces they can draw on the canvas at a much lower cost. I should just look at the stitch guide, see the threads and stitches that were used and glean knowledge for future pieces.

That is about all for today. I am working on dinner reservations for Saturday which is pretty short notice. Tonight is the Patricia Locke jewelry sale and book club so I better play in the makeup so I look alive.

Have a great week.
